The relationship of migraines and food:
It is often said that beyond providing fuel (calories), the foods you eat are either improving your health or taking from it.
It is important for you to know which foods may be triggering your migraines, causing or adding to other health issues, foods that ease your migraines, or foods that support greater health overall.
Common migraine triggers:
- Baked goods using yeast

Chocolate
- Cultured dairy products such as yogurt and kefir
- Cheeses high in tyramine such as blue, brie, cheddar, feta, mozzarella, muenster, parmesan, and swiss
- Fruits (and juices) including citrus fruits, dried fruits, bananas, raspberries, red plums, papayas, passion fruit, figs, dates, and avocados
- Nuts and nut butters
- Olives
- Soy products such as miso, tempeh, and soy sauce
- Tomatoes
- Vegetables such as onions, pea pods, some beans, corn, and sauerkraut
- Vinegar
And then there are the food additives:
- MSG
- Aspartame
- Nitrates and Nitrites
